WUKA Period Pants: tried and tested

First periods can be a confusing time for your daughter and there's a lot to get to grips with. We recently wrote a couple of articles on ways you can support your daughter from before her period starts, ways to celebrate period positivity and what products are best for tweens and teens.

For such a milestone moment, we know how important it is to have confidence in the right product, so we've asked our tween review panel to do a series of trials of the different options available. First up on the list is WUKA Period Pants and their amazing wearable hot water bottle.

What are Period Pants?

Period pants look and feel like regular underwear but they are leakproof, which means you don't have to wear a pad, a tampon or menstrual cup if you wear them during your period. WUKA Period pants support all types of flow (heavy, medium and light ). They are thicker in the gusset than your normal pants, so you can bleed straight into them, and they won't leak through to your clothes.

Tween reviewer, aged 11:

My first period was really bad. It went on for 11 days and I had a few leaks through my clothes. I was embarrassed that I couldn't figure out how to manage it - even though I had pads and tampons to try.

My mum suggested these period pants and gave me the WUKA first period pack. It was really fun because it came with a cool book about growing up, a wash bag and a pair of period pants. I tried the XXS and they fit perfectly.

What did you think?

I loved the fact that the pants were just normal black knickers. You couldn't tell that they were anything different from other pants. When I put them on, they didn't feel big or thick.

My period came in the morning and I trialled the pants to school. I was a little nervous that they wouldn't work but they were great! I had no leaks. One pair lasted all the way until I got home.

Are period pants easy to clean?

My mum was worried about this part. She didn't know if there was something special to soak them in. But I just put them in the washing machine with the rest of my clothes and mum said they were fine. They dried really quickly and actually three pairs was enough to last my whole period.

What about the Wearable Hot Water Bottle?

I have only had two periods and haven't had any period pains so far. But I love using the hot water bottle to snuggle up with. My mum said she really liked it on her back and tummy for her own period pains so we can share it.

What's your verdict?

I wish I had these from before I started my period! The first time I was worried that I would leak through and that never happened with these. I give them a twixt thumbs up!

WUKA My First Period Pack is on sale for £25.00 and the WUKA Wearable Hot Water Bottle is £24.99.
